2014~2015
{September}
For the month of September, Zayra Peregrino and I teamed together to create a documentary style interview of the local fire occuring on Monday September 8th. Victims of the fire included Craig and Marcia Braun, owners of Braun's Butcher Block, Mark and Nicole Campos, owners of Bling, and Gil Lewis, the owner of Bruce's Carpet and Tile formerly owned by his father. It was a difficult event to cover concerning the emotional side of it. Without any notice, these families lost their businesses they worked so hard for. Because it was so tragic, it was easier, I felt, to cover the event because the whole town was affected by it as well The documentary was quite long, but covered everything it needed to, I felt.
{October}
Over the month of October, Zayra Peregrino and I joined forces again to produce another documentry type production including interviews of our Science teachers at SCHS with a main focus on Mrs. Preeti Anil, the Chemistry teacher, who happens to be from India. A good friend of Mrs. Anil, Doctor Stacy Rogers- the Biology teacher, was spoke to in which she told of how Mrs. Anil has transitioned exceptionally from educations in a third world country to small town Kansas. Also shown was the Physical Science and Physics teacher, Mr. James Pickert who was a first year teacher at our high school in the 2012-2013 school year. The student body highly enjoys our science teachers and we feel as if we will be more than prepared for college with their assistance in high school.
{November}
During November, the advanced audio video productions classes suffered a little bit of video block. There wasn't much creativity flowing within the walls of the BBN Studio. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we work this sometimes inevitably happens. Zayra and I received the help of our weights coach, Coach Neil Baker, to create a fun little Doritos commercial. This was thrown together towards the end of our deadline so it is by far not our best work we have produced. Our November broadcast was full of silly little videos to fill space, but we're hoping for December to be much better!
{December}
For the December month, all of the classes had a lot going on with Christmas break coming up and finals and the beginning of winter sports. Kiana Yager worked on a "Kid Snippet" with some first graders and asked for some actors. Shown in the video as Santa is Sloan Baker. Kids coming to see him were James Slater, Chantz Yager, Kiana Yager, Miguel Chavez, and myself. This was a fun thing to get people to giggle and show some Christmas spirit. Along with that, I worked with Katie Nowak on an English project over Macbeth by William Shakespeare. We were told to do a news report style video over King Duncan's death in the play.
{Janurary}
Here in the BBN TV Studio, we are getting ready for the state competition. We all wanted to do our best projects- some of us took our previous projects we felt were our best work, while others started over. I chose to take the Fire Video to the next level and find out where the victims are now. I went to the business owners new locations and interviewed them, going towards the style of a hard news package. We aspire to do very well at state and hope to learn new things!
{February}
Thursday night Bingo held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Scott City has come to an end as 40 year host Melvin Lickteig, member of Knights of Columbus, has decided to retire. Melvin started the weekly game in 1974 when the state of Kansas made it legal. In addition to my project covering the finalization of Bingo, I had the opportunity to be an anchor, along with Hayden Nevills for the February broadcast. We had Public Service Announcement Awareness Month at the BBN Studio during February with some very well done PSAs touching subject over recycling, teen drinking, abuse in relationships, and gun safety. Head over to my video page and check it out!
{March~April}
With spring months being cut short due to absence of class time considering all the spring activities, we have coincided March and April for our projects. Being honest, I do not feel my Freedom of Speech PSA is my best work. I originally had a commentary in mind for this video, but it turned out to work much better as a PSA. Although it is not an excuse for my average work, I am involved in many activities at SCHS and have not been in class much to work on it. I possibly could have used my time a little more wisely when I was present, but I still feel it's not an awful project. I felt this was an important topic to touch on. The first ammendment is very controversial and sometimes we don't agree with things said, but it is one's right to say it. I show in this project some of the harsher things that have taken place on subject of this ammendment. It is an informal piece of work, but still not my most proud video I have produced.
2015~2016
{August~September}
To start my third year taking this course at the High School, I produced a project over the Spencer Flight and Education Center. Easter weekend 2011, a loved family over four died in a plane crash on their way to see family near Topeka. Dylan and Amy Spencer and their two daughters, Chase and Ansley. To memorialize them and their love of aviation and teaching, family and friends gathered to start the Spencer Flight and Education Center. I enjoyed this project and taking a step into the world of aviation and all it takes to become a skilled pilot. This center, located at the Scott City Airport, hosts many events such as Aviation Day Camp and Flight Shows. Check out the video to learn more about all that takes place at SFEC.
{August~September}
For the September Board of Education meeting, Mr. Holt was asked to present on the benefits of his class and an update as to how students are responding to this type of course compared to the first year it was offered. Mr. Holt asked Kiana Yager, Macy Berning, and I to speak on how feelings as this is Kiana and I's third year in the program, and Macy's second. This presentation was filmed at separate times in the green room and was nonscripted. I first spoke in the green room alone and in a later hour, Kiana and Macy sat through while my recording was playing over the teleprompter. We all just went in and started talking about what we have gained from taking Audio Video Production and Broadcasting and the skills we have acquired in being in this course offered at SCHS. There is some glitches within the overlapping of the two videos edited to one, but I feel this video is especially cool because it shows some of our skills in terms of being able to speak in front of the camera on key with no preparation and the abilities capable with editing.
{August~September}
At the end of the 2014-2015 school year Mr. Rumford, our superintendent, asked one of Mr. Holt's classes to make a project to show the staff at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. The topic of this project he wanted, was what makes our school district exceptional. To be honest, Zayra and I kind of dropped the ball over the summer on getting started on this project. We had interviewed students going through USD 466 currently and also alumni, whether they had just graduated or are teachers that have come back to share their passion for education in Scott City with new students and possibly their own children. So many times when people refer to Scott City Education the term "Education of Excellence" is brought up. Those that have graduated and went to further their education felt more than prepared and students currently going through the district feel they are constantly learning. Although we waited until last minute to finish this project, I feel that the teachers and staff were very pleased and also Mr. Rumford.

Last spring, my aunt Suzanne, the Children's Ministry Coordinator at First Baptist Church of Scott City, came to me asking I make a project promoting the needs of building a new church. As some may be opposed to the idea, as they feel the current church is too close to home or might be unsure of why, she wanted to get information out there to be known. I feel the best projects on BBN TV come from those the community wants to see and those that provide information needed. I am a member of the First Baptist Church and I fully believe in the potential of this project. Although I, like many, have spent their whole life in this current church, I see the great excitement in a new building. A new building would provide so much more space and a more logical space as to needs our current building do not fulfill. Space is the biggest issue as to why a building committee came together and why a new building is truly building. Although controversy has come up, it's simply a fact that we are exceeding the limits our current church building is capable of. Another large issue contributing to this project is maintenance. When I interviewed people for this video, many times this issue came up.
"Why put a large amount of money into repairs when we could put it to a new church?"
Many feel that this is a great opportunity to minister to more than those that are already attending our church, or any church for that matter. Just like when Scott City built a new hospital, members in the First Baptist Church feel the attractive factor comes into play and brings more people in. Like I said earlier, I believe in the incredible potential of where our congregation and Church could go with a new building. Click over to Clarissa's Creations {2015-2016} to watch the video!
2016~2017
{August}
As I begin my senior year, seeking a future in Sports Media, I hope to bring a variety of sports packages and projects to my portfolio. This will be my fourth consecutive year in Mr. Holt's Digital Media program at SCHS. I have loved seeing my skills develop and evolve over the past four years and I'm as excited as ever to start some projects this year. I hope my skill level has vividly evolved and I can't wait to bring my ideas to life throughout 2016-2017.
{September/October}
While busy with volleyball, I have not gotten projects done this year. As I am primarily focusing on sports media, for my major in college is going to be that. Each week a home football game was held, I studied the opponents past season and asked our players and coaches their thoughts on the match-up, to create a sideline report. My ultimate dream is to stand on the sidelines of professional football games and report on the action on the field. I am thankful for Mr. Holt's willingness and cooperation with me to give me as much preparation as possible before entering college. Sometimes due to technical issues, I have not been able to report, but I enjoy preparing them, for mere experience. For most of October, I prepared Sports Broadcasts. When competing in state competition last year, the judges commented on how we were likely to win, except we were missing one valuable part- sports. I am inquisitive to the idea of working on a sports segment someday- preferably Sports Center, and I want to learn how to write a good sports report. I love writing sideline reports, but I need to work on the in-the-studio type of content. Mr. Holt and I have worked together to try and create the best sports broadcast we can, but we are still trying to perfect it, before airing it on Channel 12. My class joined to create a silly video concerning Mr. Holt's lack of ownership of a cell phone. We made it in one setting, but we found humor in it. Other than that, I am just continuing to work on Sports related content.
{November}
As football wrapped up on Friday, November 4th with a tough loss to GWAC Rival, the Holcomb Longhorns, I will cover the Beaver's season as a whole. I will introduce the upcoming winter sports seasons and what's up next for Beaver athletes. Aside from sports, I am partnering with my classmate, Chandler Jansen, to interview the Youth Entrepreneur students and their instructor, Kevin Reese, to discuss the success of their annual Market Day. Market Day is a single day at SCHS, held during all three lunch periods, where students get to see their business plan turn into products, available to buy. The students love this day, as it is a chance to stray away from average school food, and the YE Students get to experience making their business idea, turn into reality.
{December}
In December, as it is a short month, I will cover the start to the winter sports seasons, and the Beavers success. Both girls and boys basketball, along with wrestling started their seasons off on a high note. Mr. Holt gave us an easy month, as finals are starting, so I added my sports segment to the News Broadcast for this month's project. Over the break, I hope to get some interviews with former athletes at SCHS for a potential project to start 2017.
{January/ February}
As we at the Beaver Broadcasting Network are preparing to take our projects to competition, and my future plans of a career in Sports Media, I decided to do a short documentary about athletes who have left SCHS to compete at the collegiate level. Scott Community is known for their success in athletics, so the featured athletes are only a small few of the athletes who have gone on to compete after high school. My project featured Colborn Couchman, Kansas State University, Luke Hayes, Kansas State University, Brett Meyer, Fort Hays State University, Kelly Wycoff, Fort Hays State University, Sloan Baker, Butler Community College, and Cooper Griffith, Fort Hays State University.
On February 5th, the First Baptist Church of Scott City will hold a "vision Sunday" to show the congregation how God is working throughout the church. Pastor Kyle Evans came to me asking if I would use my videography skills to put together a short presentation including Riot Youth Group, Recharged, Sunday School, and Church. I paired with Parker Vulgamore and Joe Evans to create this video. We used "God is on the Move" by 7eventh Time Down as a way to tie in the theme of vision Sunday with the video.
{February}
For the month of February, I worked on a project for the First Baptist Church of Scott City, called "BabyD." Children's Ministry Coordinator, also my aunt, Suzanne Griffith contacted me to produce this video. BabyD is a video made to give to new parents within the church giving them tools to incorporate God into their process of raising their new child, and more information about the baby dedication service. I enjoyed helping create this because I feel it is important to give back to the community and provide a service to them. At SCHS, we would have so much less without our community's support and generous donations to the Beaver Broadcasting Network over the years, and I think giving our time is the least we could do. This video will be shown to all new parents at First Baptist Church interested in dedicating their baby. Also, Kiana Yager, Macy Berning, and I grouped together to begin our Post Graduation Plans project. This project will be shown at graduation, telling of the graduates' future plans (where they will be attending and their prospective major). We have gathered logos to put into the tricaster of all the colleges planned on and have began to film some of the students.
{March-May}
I originally came up with the idea for this video, because as our graduation is approaching, the common question graduates receive is: "What are your plans after high school?" For the remainder of the school year, Macy, Kiana, and I have been working on our graduation project telling of the class of 2017's post-graduation plans. We weren't anticipating the amount of work this project would require, as we assumed recording approximately six-second clips of our peers saying their name, potential college/plans, and majors would be fairly simple. However, we have been shocked by the time we have had to put in merely trying to track down our peers to get them to come video. We tried a variety of methods to organize going about this, but we have had many trials and errors. First, we tried a free for all, asking students to come in anytime in 2nd or 5th hours, but few students cooperated in that attempt. Later, we tried using the GroupMe app that many students and organizations use to contact many people at once. With the app method, we tried scheduling certain days and weeks for various schools, starting with the colleges in which the majority of our classmates are attending, but still, we waited on many students. Later, we tried to text students individually, but they failed to hold themselves accountable in coming into the studio to record in the time they said they would. Eventually, in recent weeks, we have simply found which class they are in during 2nd and 5th hours, and brought them to the studio. We had to alter our original plan of how we would finish the video, due to some of our classmates disagreeing with the plan of when and how the video would be brought to the public at our graduation ceremony. I truly believe this video has taught us many things, including how to reason with people, how to keep students accountable, and how to organize our ideas and how to execute them.
This project will be shown prior to our graduation ceremony, as a display telling what the graduating class of 2017 will be doing after they graduate and into next fall.
{May}
Aside from working on my Post-Graduation Plans video, to be played at the Class of 2017's graduation ceremony, I was contacted by my home church, the First Baptist Church of Scott City, to record Mark Campos giving his testimony. He got baptized on April 30, 2017, and our Pastor, Kyle Evans, wanted him to give his testimony via video prior to his baptism. My aunt, a ministry coordinator at the church, contacted me to produce this video. Only taking a day from start to finish, Mark had his testimony written out, we put it on the teleprompter, recorded it, and I had it edited within the hour. You can head over to "Clarissa's Creations 2016-2017" by clicking on the upper left hand drop down and it will take you to his YouTube link, telling how God has worked in his life.
